The Intervention Based Services Process

  What is the Intervention Based Services Process?
 
Intervention Based Services is a problem solving process used to help meet the needs  
  of students who are struggling with academics and/or behavior.

  Who requests a meeting and why?
 
Who: Caregivers, Teachers, Administrators, Community and/or Agency Personnel
  Why: The person making the referral feels that the student needs more intensive
  services to be successful either with academics and/or behavior.

  What happens at each meeting?
 
-Team members identify the needs of the student
  -Interventions are developed and implemented to meet the student's needs
  -Data is collected to support the interventions
  -Decisions are made to continue with intervention or move to next level

 

Ways to Help at Home...

  Reading:
 
-Listen to your child read for at least 15 min.
  -Read to your child
  -Practice fluency by having them reread stories or passages

  Writing:
 
-Write letters to family members, friends, or famous actors/performers
  -Have your child keep a journal or write on a topic that you make up or they choose
  -Edit work for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, grammar
  -Give a topic and let them write for three min., count the number of words they wrote,  
  work to increase the number of words per minute

  Math:
 
-Practice flashcards to increase speed
  -Make up problems involving time, money, and measurement
