Brooks has served since 2018 as the interim director of the department, leading the expansion of preschool enrollment and evaluation of CPS’ preschool teaching professionals and programs.

CPS opened 10 new preschool classrooms in the 2019-20 school year, and plans to open more classrooms throughout the district in 2020-21. Notably, 100 percent of CPS preschools have earned a four- or five-star rating from the Ohio Department of Education, including LEAP Academy and Rising Stars at Ezzard Charles that earned the distinction last week.

Prior to joining the Early Childhood Education Department, Brooks was the interim assistant director for the Department of Student Services. From 2005-2017, she was the principal at Roberts Academy.

"I'm honored to continue the journey with an outstanding group of students, parents, staff and community partners to increase access to high-quality preschool programs for our families throughout the district," Brooks said. "We're focusing on our instructional program to ensure that our children are prepared academically, socially and emotionally for kindergarten."

A CPS study shows that students who participate in two years of a high-quality preschool program are more likely to graduate and be more successful throughout their learning career.
